Recreational Soccer
"Here's my advice: Don't give yourself agita over winning and losing.

Make sure your kid is having fun"

This column by Editor Mike Daly was in the Sunday Post on the editorial page. Click here for the entire piece. See below for the part about Sterling House.

"The soccer fields at David Wooster Middle School in Stratford were aswarm with kids on a recent Saturday, kids as far as the eye could see.

Little kids. Some bigger and older than others, certainly. Little kids, nonetheless.

Whistle bursts punctured the general din. Referees, some not that long departed from the ranks of little kids themselves, scrambled about, keeping order and pointing players in the right direction.

This is the Sterling House soccer program in Stratford. Sterling House has a well-admired program. They get it right on any number of fronts, one of which is that they keep no standings.

They understand the meaning of the word "recreation" as it applies to organized soccer.

So all around Connecticut, little kids and their parents and coaches and referees, many of them new to the situation, are taking to the fields.

Here's my advice: Don't give yourself agita over winning and losing. Make sure your kid is having fun."
