Flag Football 1st-2nd grade

Fall 2025  -  Flag Football - Youth

Flag Football Rules: PreK-2nd Grade

These rules are designed to create a fun, safe, and educational environment for our youngest players.

Game Structure and Field

  • The field is smaller to better suit our players, measuring 20 yards by 40 yards, with one 10-yard end zone and a midfield line.
  • The offensive team starts each possession on the same yard line. There are no kickoffs or punts.
  • A team has four downs to cross the midfield line. If they succeed, they get another four downs to score a touchdown.
  • A player is out of bounds if any part of their body touches or crosses the boundary line.

Teams and Participants

  • 1st-2nd Grade teams will play 7 vs 7.
  • PreK-K teams will play 5 vs 5.
  • Each game night will include a 20-minute practice followed by a game with two 15-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime.
  • All players are expected to receive equal playing time throughout the game.

Coaches

  • One coach per team is allowed on the field to guide players on both offense and defense. Please do your best to stay out of the way of the action.
  • Coaches may act as the quarterback when needed, but we encourage coaches in the 1st-2nd grade league to give the kids opportunities to play this position.

Scoring and Equipment

  • No official score will be kept in this league.
  • Players must keep their jerseys tucked in at all times.
  • Metal cleats are not allowed.
  • Mouthguards are optional.

Sportsmanship and Penalties

  • There will be no official referees in this league.
  • Coaches should work together to identify and correct any visible penalties, using these moments as teaching opportunities to help kids understand the rules.
  • Foul play will not be tolerated. If a coach sees tackling, elbowing, cheap shots, excessive blocking, or any other unsportsmanlike conduct, the player may be asked to sit out for 15 minutes or be ejected from the game.
  • All players, parents, and coaches are expected to adhere to the Nephi Recreation "Code of Conduct."
