PEBBLECREEK SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION

OCTOBER 4TH, 2011

POLICY STATEMENT NO. 5

SUBJECT: A.E.D. – Automated External Defibrillator

The AED is provided as a service to the residents of PebbleCreek on behalf of the Kare Bears organization. Kare Bears oversees the care, maintenance and upkeep of the AED with medical oversight provided by the Kare Bears Medical Director.

An AED will be located at the softball field in the maintenance shed during the softball season. At the completion of the season, it will be relocated to the Tuscany Falls guard house until the start of the following season.

Responsibilities of the PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association for the AED:

  1. The AED will be moved from the Tuscany Falls guard house to the maintenance shed at the field at the beginning of the new softball season. The AED will be stored in the storage cabinet inside the shed along with the first aid kit.
  2. The AED will be moved from the storage cabinet to the home bench area at the beginning of each game day, along with the first aid kit.
  3. The AED and first aid kit will be returned to the storage cabinet upon completion of the day’s playing schedule.
  4. If the AED is used, a list of the supplies used will be compiled. This list will be given to the Kare Bears AED Coordinator for reordering/replacing the used items.

Note: Kare Bears will perform all routine and annual maintenance of the AED, including battery check, checking for outdated supplies, etc., and is responsible for ordering all AED supplies.

The PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association has individual players who have been trained and certified in the use of the AED. These individuals are certified as “first responders” and have voluntarily accepted the responsibility of assisting their teammates or spectators in case of a medical emergency.

All players are encouraged to participate in the AED/CPR training which takes approximately four (4) hours and the certification is valid for one (1) or two (2) years, depending on which agency administers the class. The goal of the PCSSA is to have a minimum of two (2) players from each team certified at all times.

Kare Bears schedules and coordinates the AED/CPR certification classes. A notice of upcoming classes will be sent to team managers who can notify players when to sign up.

Sign up sheets for the classes will be located across from the pro shop at the Eagles Nest Clubhouse. The fee for the certification class will be paid by the PCSSA.

A list of all current players and spouses who are AED/CPR certified will be posted on the bulletin board at the field.
