Summer 2020  -  Softball
Welcome to the 2020 3rd & 4th grade Girls Softball League!
Please familiarize yourself with the important league information and rules listed below to ensure a safe, fun & successful season for all:
COVID-19 Related Safety Rules
Due to COVID-19 and to ensure methods are in place in case contact tracing is needed, the Park District is requiring all team coaches to share attendance log links with their team families for them to submit who was in attendance on each date of the Girls Softball League. Anyone who was physically at the park should complete this form. This includes and is not limited to: players, coaches, parents and any other spectators present. These Google Forms will be emailed by the Athletic Supervisor the following day of each practice/game this season.
  1. Practices/games scheduled on both Tuesdays & Saturdays have been given intentionally staggered starting times to allow for better physical distancing amongst league players, coaches, umpires and spectators. This will reduce foot traffic near the ball fields and provide spacing in-between games. Once a game has concluded, teams should plan to immediately vacate the ball field and should not congregate and socialize in the park as to allow the teams playing afterwards to settle in and prepare for their game. Please park on First St or Spruce St if you are on Field #3.
  2. No high-fives, handshakes or fist-bumps, etc., during or before practices/games between anyone involved in said practice/game, including coaches and players. Similarly, any end-of-practice/game pep talk or team cheer would be directed to occur with a 6-ft. minimum physical distancing between all players, coaches, etc. The same is to be maintained between players as they observe drill demonstrations, “chalk talk”, etc.
  3. Players should keep their equipment behind the fence of the playing field with a 6-ft. minimum of physical distancing between them and their nearest teammates.
  4. Players and coaches must arrive at the field fully dressed for practices/games, including wearing their cleats as they approach the field, as to avoid spending time on the bench tying their shoes.
  5. Before allowing participation, the umpire or field supervisor will ask coaches whether they or any players are currently exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. If a player does have symptoms, they must leave and should wait to return until they have had no fever for at least 72 hours (without fever reducing medication), other symptoms have improved and at least 10 days have passed since their symptoms first appeared or until the Park District is shown proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
  6. In order to minimize sharing of equipment, the umpire will be the catcher. A girl should still be assigned to the catcher position, but stand off to the side and become an active play maker once the ball is in play.
  7. Players may not sit closer than 6’ away from each other in the designated bench area. Players must wear face coverings when not on the field of play. The Park District will provide hand sanitizer for teams to use at practices/games. It is recommended that each team brings at least one hand sanitizer bottle as backup that is shared with the team. It is recommended that hand sanitizer is used after coming in from the field or after taking an at bat (when it’s convenient to do so.)
  8. Teams will not line up to shake hands after the game. When the game is over, teams cannot socialize on the field or outside the field. Teams must disperse immediately. Teams waiting for a game to end prior to their game starting, must do so while keeping a 6’ distance at all times.
  9. Spectators must maintain a 6” distancing throughout the game.
  10. Existing seating (bleachers) for spectators will be limited to 20% capacity with spectators wearing face coverings. Diagram of bleacher occupancy available for viewing/download at www.quickscores.com/gpd under the “Downloads” tab.
  11. Spectators are highly encouraged to bring their own chairs and sit in household groups beyond the 1st and 3rd base fencing. If sitting within 6 feet of someone outside of their household, spectators must be wearing a face covering.
  12. Physical distance of at least 6-ft. should be maintained between non-household individuals unless participating in activities permitted under Phase IV guidelines.
  13. Close Contact - Players who have had close contact with someone who is diagnosed with COVID-19 should:
  • Quarantine for 14 days after the last/most recent contact with the infectious individual
  • Seek a COVID-19 test
  • Others be alert for COVID-19 symptoms
14. Experiencing Symptoms - Any player experiencing symptoms should wait to enter premises until they have had no fever for at least 72 hours (without fever reducing medication), other symptoms have improved, and at least 10 days have passed since their symptoms first appeared or until the Park District is shown proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
15. Contracted COVID-19Player should remain self-isolated until they have had no fever for at least 72 hours (without fever reducing medication), other symptoms have improved, and at least 10 days have passed since their symptoms first appeared or player has two negative COVID-19 tests in a row, with testing done at least 24 hours apart.
16. Home team shall always use the dugout/bench area located on the third base side of the ball diamond. The Home team is the team that is listed first on the game schedule on QuickScores. Away team shall always use the dugout/bench area located on the first base side of the ball diamond. The Away team is the team that is listed second, or underneath the Home team on the game schedule on QuickScores.
17. Glenview Park District staff will clean common areas such as bleachers and player benches, which will be wiped down in-between games.
18.   It is recommended that each player’s family have a personal supply of hand sanitizer in the player’s equipment bag. Additionally, players/parents are expected to following the following protocols:
  • Wash hands at home before leaving for practices/games
  • Utilize hand sanitizer at the field prior to the start of practices/games
  • Utilize hand sanitizer during each water break and between each inning
  • Utilize hand sanitizer at the field immediately upon completing practice
  • Wash hands at home immediately upon returning home from practices/games
19.   All players across all grade levels must provide their own mitts and batting gloves. It is highly recommended that all players also provide their own bats and batting helmets.
20.   Coaches must wear masks or face coverings throughout the entire game. Coaches will be responsible for making sure capacity limits and physical distancing requirements are being maintained. However, coaches are also permitted to solicit a parent volunteer whose sole duty will be to make sure players are maintaining those requirements. This parent volunteer could also be assigned the task of reminders regarding hand sanitizing and not sharing drink or food items.
21.   Any time multiple teams are due to be assigned a particular field in successive time slots, coaches will be encouraged to ensure that at least 15 minutes pass between the departure of one team and the arrival of the next. Teams waiting to take the field are discouraged from “hovering” by the dugout as they wait for the prior team’s departure. No coaches or players from a team seeking to move into a dugout will be permitted to do so until every member of the departing team has left the dugout and the bench area has been sprayed down.
22.   Teams/groups will be static for the duration of the season with no mixing of coaches, parents or participants.
23.   Sharing of food or drinks is prohibited. No team snacks or drinks are permitted to be passed out during the season.
