Through a program of Christ-centered athletics, the Wade Hampton Church Basketball League provides the opportunity for reach participant to develop his or her talents through a program which emphasizes growth and a deeper dedication to God and to church. 

 

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide a Christian environment where fellowship, recreation, and ministry can take place.
  • To use the sport of basketball as a tool to spread the gospel and reach people for Christ. 
  • To develop within each participant patience, self-control, courage, good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a Christian outlook toward sports.

Rules

  1. Reviews & updates rules for play and eligibility 
  2. Informs changes to the League of Directors. 

Scheduling

  1. League Director schedules all regular season games.

Accounting

  1. Comprised of league officers
  2. Authorized to sign checks for league (two signatures are required for $500 and above).
  3. Prepare and distribute financial report to the Board at appropriate meetings.

League Director

  1. Handles all scheduling.
  2. Regulates league membership.
  3. Responsible for referees.
  4. Responsible for all daily operations of the league. 

Director of Officials

  1. Is a liaison between the league and referees.
  2. Responsible for booking.
  3. Observes how well rules are interpreted and enforced by referees.
  4. Answers to the League Director & Board.
  5. Paid a consulting fee for booking officials. 

 

FEE STRUCTURE 

  • Fees are set annually by the Board.
  • Surcharges:

  1. Each participating church that does not have a gym

$50 PER TEAM - **this helps offset the expenses of churches that allow the league to use their gym.

  1. Churches that have a gym, but do not allow the gym to be used

ELIGIBILITY 

 

  • While each church is responsible for setting their own eligibility requirements, it is required by the league that all participating non-members be required to regularly attend functions of the church they represent. 
    • It is the church representative’s responsibility to insure each team in their program meets these requirements. 
  • Any team found out of compliance will risk game forfeitures or league expulsion.
  • Any age challenges will be resolved between the coaches and church representatives.
    • Challenges must be lodged before and after the game, not during. 
    • Violation Consequences:

Unsportsmanlike technical will be charged to the team*

  • A play may move up to another team (age group) if there is NO team provided for his/her age group.
    • Exception: no player allowed to move up to over 30/40 teams. 
  • Girls may play on boys’ teams if there no team provided for their age group, up to the 8th grade.
  • No player may play for more than one team or age group. 
  • No player may switch teams.
  • Violation will result in immediate loss of eligibility and forfeiture of all games played. 
  • **NO PLAYER WHO MAKES THE FINAL CUT ON A SCHOOL TEAM (HOME SCHOOL, CHARTER, OR PRIVATE) MAY PARTICIPATE IN THIS LEAGUE FOR THE CHURCH AND SCHOOL SEASON. 
    • VIOLATION: Any team caught play school players, the ineligible player and coach will be suspended for 1 calendar year: NO EXCEPTIONS! 
  • All players, coaches, referees, and fans participate at their own risk. 
  • No player will exceed the following age limits during the season (September 1st cutoff). 
  • The player must meet both age and grade requirements or they must play at a higher age level. 

 

 

 

RULES FOR PLAY:

 

  • The Wade Hampton Church Basketball League plays by official high school rules with the exceptions of its own rules that are stated. 
  • Each game is to begin with coaches and officials conference and prayer by the home team. 
  • Following the game, the visiting team will lead in prayer. 

 

JEWELRY: 
  • No band-aids or tape over jewelry will be allowed. 
    • No player shall wear jewelry (watches, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, metal hair bows, or hair beads).
    • NO EXCEPTIONS! 

 

 

JERSEYS: 
    • Each player must wear a basketball jersey/ tshirt  that matches the rest of the team.
    • The jersey MUST have a number, preferably on the front and back of the jersey.
    • The numbers on the jersey must be contrasting to the jersey and easy to read. 
    • No player will be allowed to enter the game without a matching jersey.**
    • NO TWO PLAYERS CAN WEAR THE SAME NUMBER.*

 

JUMP BALLS:  
    • All gyms must have a possession arrow to designate ball possessions.

 

 

PLAYER PARTICIPATION:
    • Each player must play in EACH half in which they are present in every game unless there is an injury. 
    • All players on the team must be entered into the score book prior to the start of a game. 
    • Unlisted players entering the game will result in a two (2) shot technical.
    • The official scorekeeper will keep record of participation.
    • It is the coach’s responsibility that participation requirements are met.
    • Non- participation penalty is a 2 shot technical. 
  • The official scorekeeper is the final authority on any scoring disputes! 

 

VIOLATIONS, FORFEITURES, TECHNICAL FOULS, & SPORTSMANSHIP:

Unsportsmanlike Technical

  1. Includes: flagrant intentional foul, obstinate, rude , foul language, antagonistic, or any disruptive behavior
  2. Automatic dismissal the game being played 
  3. Player or coach must leave the bench area immediately
  4. Automatic dismissal from next 2 scheduled games 
  5. On the 1st unsportsmanlike technical, a letter will be sent to the player’s/coach’s Pastor informing him/her of the unsportsmanlike technical foul from the League President.

Bench Technical Foul

  1. Includes: players not being played in both halves, overall poor behavior from the bench as a whole, & any other procedural irregularities. 
  2. Two in one game will result in a forfeit.

Cumulative Penalty 

  1. 3 unsportsmanlike technical fouls in one season will result in the team being dropped from the League
**Referees’ discretion on bench vs. unsportsmanlike technical. 
**Any player or coach violating suspension will be dropped from the league for one (1) calendar year 

 

  • NO dunking is allowed at any time. 
    • This includes: BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER the game. 
    • Violation will result in a technical foul, dismissal from the current game,  and 2 game suspension.
    • Individuals and churches will be held responsible for any damages incurred.
    • Any referee that does not enforce this rule will be suspended from the League.

 

**THERE ARE NO EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES, AND THERE WILL BE NO APPEALS OF TECHNICAL FOULS ASSESSED. 

 

FORFEITS:
  • If a team does not show up for the game, it will result in a forfeit.
    • NO EXCEPTIONS! 
  • No grace period will be given for teams who do not have 5 players.
  • All games will be played as scheduled. 
    • Each team must have 5 players present at game time.
    • No games will be rescheduled by the league, including for inclement weather. 
  • Officials will not referee for scrimmages. 

 

  • *FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER DELAYS OR CANCELLATIONS WILL BE POSTED ON THIS WEBSITE. 

 

PROTESTS: 
    • All protests must be in writing and submitted to the appropriate League Director within 24 hours of the game in question. 
    • Final authority on any ruling will be by League Board of Directors. 

 

SCOREKEEPERS & CLOCK OPERATORS:
    • Each gym will provide a scorekeeper and a clock operator.
    • Must be at least 15 years of age. 
    • **Official scorekeeper has final authority on any scoring disputes. 

 

 

SPORTSMANSHIP:
  • Be very  cautious to avoid the appearance of “running up the score”. 
  • Be realistic in your consideration of what constitutes a “safe” lead.
  • They should encourage sportsmanship and make every attempt to calm and control inappropriate behavior by fans and players.
  • Coaches should actively pray for their players and their players’ families, as well as share team devotions throughout the season. 
    • Coaches should be considerate of the feelings of their team as well as those of the opponent.
    • There are many creative things that can be done to avoid embarrassing your opponents, while still maintaining the integrity of the playing experience. 
    • Coaches should be concerned about their actions as well as those of their players and fans.
    • As ambassadors for Christ, our desire to win should be subservient to our desire to present an effective Christian testimony. 
  • FIGHTING: 
    • Any player/ coach who throws a punch or is involved in a fight will be suspended from the League for 1 calendar year. 
    • NO APPEALS!

 

 

SPECTATORS:
  • Church representative and/or referees have the authority to have a player, coach or spectator removed from the facility as they deem necessary. 
    • Are expected to adhere to proper Christian conduct.
    • Anyone using foul language, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or being abusive in any way will be removed from the gym. 
    • All players, coaches, and fans will adhere to the rules of the gym in which they have a game. 
    • Any damage to a gym by an individual will be his/ her responsibility. 
    • Derogatory comments directed towards a referee, coach, player or fan will result in that person being removed from the gym.
    • If you have questions or concerns, please contact the church representative from your church.
