According to the Centers for Disease Control, concussions can affect a child or teen for a lifetime and, in extreme cases, may be fatal.
To help insure the health and safety of our participants, the City of Seminole Athletics requires that all coaches, referees, instructors and athletics staff complete annual training in concussion awareness. The goal of this requirement is to reduce potentially serious health risks associated with sport and activity induced concussion and head injuries.
We also want to educate our partners, parents and participants of the signs, symptoms and behaviors consistent with sports and activity induced concussions.
The Recreation Division will require that any participant suspected of concussion or head injury must be removed from the activity (games and practices) and recommended that the participant be examined by a licensed health care provider. If a participants is deemed by a licensed health care provider to have sustained a concussion, Recreation Division staff and volunteers shall not permit the participant to return to the program (games and practices) until they she or he receives documented clearance from a licensed health care provider for full or graduated return to play.

For Staff and Volunteers
These free online programs are currently approved by the Recreation Division to meet the requirements for volunteer coaching. For the convenience of our volunteers who may be working with other organizations we have approved three online courses; however, volunteers are required to complete only one course per year.
