2009 Mensendick Memorial
January 6, 2009.
Game 1: Peoria Elementary vs Arlington Elementrary.
Darius Yabo scored a game high 22 pts for Peoria Elem. in route to their first victory of the tournament. Omar Bautista scored 12 pts for Arlington.
Game 2: Sante Fe vs Desert Mirage.
Sante Fe wins their opening game lead by Marco Alonzo who finished with 28 pts and 12 rebounds. Desert Mirage top scorer was Reyvon Johnson with 10 pts.
Game 3: Villa De Paz vs Canyon Elementary
Canyon Elementary gets to talk about their win at school tomorrow. Shane Ramsey led Canyon with 14 pts. Eli Dixon grabbed 12 rebounds in their win. Villa De Paz's Rodney Williams used his athletism to score 10pts and grab 9 rebounds in the loss.

Game 4: Ruth Fisher vs Desert Valley
Desert Valley goes home with the win. Brad Sawin led the way with 11 points making three long range 3 pointers. Sean Fedler led the way for Ruth Fisher with 6 points.
Game 5: Palo Verde vs Ira Murphy
Ira Murphy comes away with the win, leading scorer Alejandro Villarreal 10 pts and 6 rebounds. Palo Verde scoring was lead by Jose Rodriguez with 7 pts and 5 rebounds.
Game 6: Marshal Ranch vs Laveen
Marshall Ranch gets to sleep well after winning their opening game of the tournament. Jordan Stewart led the way for Marshall Ranch finishing with 12 pts and 7 rebounds. Cain Elias led Laveen with 19 pts and 4 rebounds.
Game 7: Rio Vista vs Discovery
Discovery walked out of the gym victorious in the "Game of the NIght," Marquis Williams led the way for Discovery with 18 pts, 5 rebounds. Jose Moreno also contributed 12pts in the win. Rio Vista fought hard behind the scoring of Frederick Eriven's (10pts, 4 rebounds) and Deitrick Jones (8 pts).
Game 8: Melvin Sine vs Jack L. Kuban
Ricky Thompson led Melvin Sine to the victory with 17pts and 8 rebounds. Gabriel Guerrero led Jack L Kuban with 10 pts, 7 rebounds.Day 3 Recap: Saturday Jan. 10, 2009
It was a great day of basketball at the 35th Annual Don Mensendick Memorial for the C Division. The excitement, competitiveness, hustle, desire displayed by every team kept us at the score table excited and talking. It seemed like every game came down to the last minute. Some games came down to last second shots! We want to thank all the players, coaches, teams and parents for giving us a great Saturday of basketball. Below are breif recaps of the days games.
Game 1: Arlington vs Laveen
Laveen held onto a slight lead all game and finished their first game of the day with a win over Arlington. Cain Elias (10 pts, 6 rbs) and Jermyne Williams (8pts) led the way for Laveen. Arlington fought hard throughout the game led by Angel Hazard (8pts) and Omar Bautista (6pts, 4 rbs)
Free Throw Recap: Cain Elias set the bar high by hitting 18/20 free throws, hitting 15 in a row after he missed shots 4 and 5. Eli Luiano made 11/20 for Arlington.
Game 2: Peoria Elem. vs. Marshall Ranch
The second game of the day and most anticipated match up brought everyone out, including some local high school coaches. After four quarters of basketball Peoria walked out of the gym winners. Darius Yabo scored a game high 23 pts and going for 13/17 from the free throw, making 6/7 in the fourth quarter. Jordan Stewart led Marshall Ranch with 19pts and 13 rebounds before fouling out in the last few seconds of the game.

Game 3: Rio Vista vs. Ruth Fisher
Rio Vista had every player score in their win against Ruth Fisher. Led by Frederick Eriven (14 pts, 7 rbs) this win was an effort put in by the whole team. Ruth Fisher fought hard behind the play of Daniel Garcia (14 pts) and Jaden Masch (12 pts).

Game 4: Discovery vs. Desert Valley
Desert Valley got solid play having almost 5 players score in double digits. Frank Ngogoe led the way with 12pts and 14 rebounds. Discovery played solid in their loss led by Jose Moreno’s 17 pts and 4 rebounds.

Game 5: Palo Verde vs. Desert Mirage
Desert Mirage came away with the win in a game that came down to last second free throws! Reyvon Johson led Desert Mirage with 13pts. Delmorion Williams contributed in the win with 5pts and 7 rebounds. Palo Verde’s Jose Rodriquez led the way for Palo Verde with 10pts and 6 rebounds. Cesar Romero had 5pts and 9 rebounds for Palo Verde.

Game 5: Sante Fe vs. Ira A. Murphy
Marco Alonso led Sante Fe in their win over Ira Murphy scoring 22pts and grabbing 15 rebounds. Ira A. Murphy was led by David R. (10pts)

Game 6: Jack L. Kuban vs. Villa De Paz
Rodney Williams had 17pts and 15 rebounds in Villa De Paz’s win to lead them to their next match up against Desert Mirage. Gabriel Guerrero played hard all game for Jack L. Kuban earning the attention of tournament staff with his all out hustle. Gabriel finished the night with 15pts and 3 rebounds.

Game 7: Melvin E. Sine vs. Canyon Elem.
The second to last game of day three was close until the final minutes of the game. Rodney Thompson led Melvin E. Sine to their second win of the tournament with 17pts and 5 rebounds. Canyon Elementary was led by two players, Shane Ramsey (11pts, 6 rebounds) and Ely Dixon (10pts, 13 rebounds).

Game 8: Rio Vista vs. Laveen
The night ended with a very close game between these two teams. Both teams played well till the end. With no team wanting to go home without the win, the players on both teams left it all on the court. After the effort given by both teams, everyone in the gym was a winner that night including spectators. Rio Vista fought hard till the end but came up a few points shy falling to Laveen 50-41. They were led by Nino Green (13pts, 4 rbs) and Fredrick Eriven (12pts, 5 rbs). Jermayne Williams had a breakout game for Laveen scoring 23 points. Junior M had 10 rebounds to go along with his 6 pts, Cain Elias had 14pts, 4 rbs. Taquan Johson on numerous times seem to fly out of nowhere on his way to a solid 7pt, 7 rebound night. Laveen made 5/6 from the Free throw line, hitting 4/4 in the last minute of the game.
