WHAT ABOUT INCLEMENT WEATHER?
The inclement weather policy will be given to coaches.  Please contact them directly if you have a question about games or practices not being held because of weather after 4pm.  We reserve the right to reschedule any inclement weather makeup games for weekdays during teams’ practice times, or on additional Saturdays, and/or Sunday afternoons.  Refunds/credits will not be given due to rainouts as every attempt will be made to makeup the games during the season.

Inclement Weather – Games
The Recreation Division reserves the right to postpone, reschedule, or cancel any game in Erie if circumstances justify such action. All scheduled games in Erie postponed due to inclement weather, darkness, or other reasons beyond the control of game officials shall be rescheduled, if possible, by the Erie Recreation Division.  A cancellation decision will be made by the Erie Recreation Division no later than 4 pm on weekdays.  The field supervisor and the game officials will be in charge at the activity and will make the official notice of whether or not games are being played if weather conditions have changed since 4:00pm.  Once a game is officially postponed, all coaches will be notified.  The coaches are then responsible for contacting their team members.  For game cancellation information call 303-926-2550.If lightening and thunder distance are within 30 seconds of one another, once the game has begun, the game will be suspended until the last lightening has been 30 minutes removed.  After the initial delay, the umpire and field supervisor will decide whether or not the weather or field conditions will allow play to resume.

Inclement Weather – Practices
Coaches are responsible for canceling practices due to inclement weather or poor field conditions.  The safety of all participants takes first priority.  If at anytime the weather or field conditions present an unsafe atmosphere, practices should be canceled.  Practices can always be rescheduled by calling a Recreation Coordinator at 303-926-2794.  Coaches are also responsible for notifying their team of any cancellations.

Field Playability Guidelines for Games and Practices – Athletic Fields.
When determining field playability, the following guidelines should be followed:
  • A large area of standing water on any part of the playing field is a sign that the field is not safe for play.
  • During the course of inspection, any visible water or sound (squish) while walking is an indication that the field is unfit for play or practice.
  • Footprints and the collection of water around them is an indication that the field should be closed.
Field Playability Guidelines for Games and Practices – Ball Diamonds.
While ball diamonds present a unique challenge, the approach to determining playability is similar to athletic fields.
  • The above guidelines used for determining playability on Athletic Fields also apply to Ball Diamonds.
  • Never attempt to remove water from playing fields using a broom.  Pushing water from a dirt surface to grass creates lips that are difficult to remove and are unsafe.
  • Using Diamond Dry or Turface is allowed to help absorb small moist areas.
